There are two main objectives for this project:
- To firmly establish the first international standard for building and ornamental stones via extensive documentation of those stones that have been significant in human culture.
- To help eligible researchers to be present at our meetings;
Regarding 1: Suitable nominations will be sought worldwide in an initiative that will aim to record the characteristics for each stone type. The project will enhance the capacity of the IUGS Heritage Stones Subcommission.
The following stones are firm candidates for designation as Heritage Stones. Each is linked to a reference publication or its link. For more data, please contact the IGCP responsible at email@example.com:
Portland Stone from UK: Portland
Petit granit from Belgium: Petit Granit Episodes
Regarding 2: IGCP-637 will help with part of the expenses of young researchers, female researchers and researchers coming from developing or emerging countries that actively participate in our meetings. To be able of receiving this partial funding, researchers will have to send a CV and a short report and/or abstract related to the participation in the foreseen meeting. The Heritage Stone Subcommission board, as leaders of the project, will decide on final funding allocation. The funding will be dedicated to reimbursement of partial expenses and it will not be available before hand, as a general rule.
Project Co-leaders are the members of the board at the present time:
Dolores Pereira, Björn Schouenborg, Barry J. Cooper, Brian R. Pratt, Piero Primavori
Fareeduddin, Adichat Surinkum, Maria Heloisa Barros de Oliveira Frascá, Phil Paige-Green
